We are seeking a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead projects, mentor teams, and uphold professional standards in our Greenville, SC office.

Role Overview

The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is responsible for the technical integrity, legal compliance, and professional execution of all surveying services delivered by the Greenville office. This role blends licensed oversight with leadership, quality control, and client confidence.

You will serve as the final authority on survey products, guide field and office teams, and ensure projects are delivered accurately and efficiently, in accordance with state law and H&M standards.

Key Responsibilities

Professional & Technical Oversight

• Review, certify, and seal survey plats, maps, and deliverables
• Ensure compliance with South Carolina surveying laws, regulations, and professional standards
• Provide professional judgment on boundary resolution, easements, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking
• Serve as the technical authority for complex or high-risk projects

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and mentor Crew Chiefs, Survey Technicians, CAD staff, and Project Managers
• Establish clear expectations for accuracy, professionalism, and safety
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance development
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Quality Control & Risk Management

• Implement and enforce H&M Surveying’s QA/QC standards
• Review field data, calculations, and CAD outputs prior to client delivery
• Identify and mitigate professional, technical, and contractual risk
• Maintain consistency in methods, documentation, and deliverables

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a trusted professional contact for clients, engineers, attorneys, and agencies
• Support business development through technical credibility and client confidence
• Assist with proposals, scopes, and project feasibility as needed
• Represent H&M Surveying in a professional and ethical manner

Operational Collaboration

• Work closely with Project Managers on scheduling, scope control, and delivery
• Coordinate with corporate leadership to maintain standardized workflows
• Support multi-office collaboration and shared resources when required

Required Qualifications

• Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in South Carolina
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive surveying experience
• Strong background in boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
• Proficiency with modern surveying technology and CAD workflows (e.g., GNSS, robotic total stations, sUAS, LiDAR, Civil 3D)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• High ethical standards and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• South Carolina & North Carolina licensure (or ability to obtain NC license)
• Experience supporting land development and municipal projects
• Familiarity with UAV, LiDAR, or GIS-integrated survey workflows
• Experience working in a multi-office or growing firm environment
