Position OverviewThis is semi-advanced surveying work on a survey crew for Public Works. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating sensitive surveying instruments such as tribrachs, plumb poles, tripods, etc. in the determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and other features of the earth's surface. Operates Total Stations, leveling equipment, GPS receivers, and other surveying equipment with similar complexity and limited supervision.
Work assignments are given with limited technical instruction and are performed with limited direct supervision. Work is reviewed and evaluated periodically for timeliness, conformance to standards, and overall quality.
This is technical work with highly responsible duties in survey mapping and calculations. Work is performed with overall direction and employee has considerable independence and latitude for exercising independent judgment and initiative within statutory requirements and established polices, guidelines, and procedures.
Required Education and ExperienceTwo years of related surveying/engineering work experience operating survey instruments; transferring data from an electronic data collector to desktop computers AND
Associate's degree in related field OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work.
Preferred Education, Experience or Other QualificationsFour years of related surveying/engineering work experience operating survey instruments; transferring data from an electronic data collector to desktop computers
Survey, engineering or related coursework from a college, university or business school recognized by the US Department of Education.
