Crew Chief interested in joining our Bend, OR team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a professional small team environment.

Job Description

Responsible for reporting daily to the project surveyor on project status. Independently leads survey crew members and or can work alone. Coordinate on-site with clients, contractors, and other consultants to efficiently complete daily tasks. Perform processing and reduction of field data, and survey computations in office.

  • Setup and operate survey equipment to collect survey data.
  • Prepare daily reports as directed.
  • Maintain hand tools and survey equipment.
  • Carry equipment and work in all types of weather and terrain.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Safely operate hand tools and other equipment and demonstrate safe work habits.
  • Process and reduce field data, perform survey computations, and manage final deliverables.

Job Requirements

  • Prefer 3- 5 years’ experience as a Party Chief leading survey crews and performing field work, including boundary, right of way, construction staking, and topographic survey activities. Willing to train.
  • Knowledge and experience with Trimble instrumentation, Robotics, GPS equipment and laser scanning a plus.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting skills preferred but not required.
  • Experience using general survey software such as Star*Net, data processing software and GPS proficient with general office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written required.
  • ·       Must be comfortable and able to work independently in the field, operating as a one-person crew.
  • ·       Must have valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record and pass drug test.
  • ·       Occasionally may be required to work out of town/overnight for short periods of time.
  • ·       Applicant must be able to lift/carry up to 30 lbs and stand for long periods of time.

License and Education

High School Diploma preferred and or equivalent experience.

The Position

  • The City of Lake Oswego is offering an exciting opportunity for a land surveying / geomatics or civil engineering student as a temporary summer intern! Under general direction of the City Engineer or City Surveyor, this position will provide assistance to engineering staff, including both office and fieldwork. Assignments may range from data entry and analysis to fieldwork, of which the candidate must be able to perform in both environments. The work requires knowledge and application of basic surveying and engineering principles commensurate with 1-2 years of college-level studies. Self-motivation, positive attitude, and good communication are key qualifications for the successful candidate to possess.
  •  
  • This position is full time (40 hours a week) with a duration of approximately three to four months. The position schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The assignment is generally from June through August or September, with a flexible start date. Hourly rate will depend on qualifications and will be in the range of $17.00 - $20.00.

Key Responsibilities

  • Input and analyze data from field survey work into Autodesk Civil 3D or other database and drafting / data processing systems
  • Assist with field surveying
  • Assist with legal description preparation and analysis
  • Assist with Property Line Adjustment, Partition Plat, and Subdivision Plat reviews
  • Assist with right of way, survey, deed, or other records research
  • Collect field data including quantities, photos, and measurements
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and GIS staff as assigned or needed 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • To be eligible for this internship opportunity, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited university or college pursuing a degree related to surveying / geomatics or civil engineering. A valid driver’s license is required.
