**The Challenge**
We are hiring an engineering technician trainee to join our Chowan County Highway Project Development team.
In this role, you will:
* Serve as the Utility Coordinator and coordinate all utility relocations or accommodations necessary to ensure that the project delivery schedule is met and not delayed due to utility impacts.
* Perform technical work supporting higher-level technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control.
* Perform standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
* Perform a full range of calculations and computations.
* Work in inside and outside environmental conditions.
Employees in this position may be exposed to high traffic volumes, may work at heights over water or traffic, and may have to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges.
If selected, you will be hired at a $33,000 and receive an automatic salary increase to $34,500 at 6 months, $36,400 at 1 year, $38,500 at 18 months, and $41,300 at 2 years.
**What You Bring**
* Good eyesight to use testing instruments to read plan details, to make accurate field measurements and to inspect roadway and structure components.
* Some knowledge of surveying, highway construction or design and general knowledge of mathematical functions is needed.
* You must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush ax and other tools on steep and rough terrain. You are expected to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain, and will be required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
* The successful applicants are expected safely work high above ground, safely operate a motor vehicle, be proficient in record keeping, and engineering testing equipment.
* A Valid driver's license is preferred.
**Education and Experience**
* High school or GED Diploma, or
* An equivalent combination of education and experience.
